Scraplifting (Mar. 08)
Thou Shalt Not Steal. It’s one of the first moral lessons we learn as children, and that may be the reason so many scrapbookers are uncomfortable with the concept of scraplifting. There’s no arguing that copying a layout entirely and passing it off as one’s own work would be wrong, but where would we be without the inspiration we receive from our fellow scrappers?
The Busy Bee gallery is just loaded with the work of many talented artists. As the saying goes, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,” so we each chose a layout from the gallery from which to “lift” inspiration for a layout of our own.
| Amanda chose this layout by Gertie. She admired Gertie’s use of patterned paper as a background and the strip of words across the page. Amanda also chose to use the 8.5x11 size as Gertie did. |
| Lacintha picked this page by Linda (lbpost) as her inspiration. She mimicked the patchwork of patterned papers, but made it her own by using six squares rather than nine. |
| Alissa was inspired by this layout of Greta’s. You can see how she used the half label shape and the title placement from Greta’s page as starting points for her own. |
| Maegan did a great lift of this beautiful page by Kelscraps_4_Two. Maegan’s lift is more direct, but she changed the colors and embellishments to suit her photo. |
| Shawna lifted this page by Jonnine. She borrowed the layered papers, flowers, and inking from Jonnine’s page to create her own. |
| I took inspiration from this page by SusieQ to create two of my own. The first is very close to the layout of SusieQ’s page. For the second, I rotated the design and replaced two of the photos with patterned paper. |

The Booya Girls did a wonderful job showing how “stealing” can be a wonderful thing, so long as it’s just taking inspiration from others.
