Make the Most of Your Cardstock May 08
by Kim Moreno

Cardstock is one of the very basic supplies we use when scrapbooking. When people think of cardstock they usually think background paper or for matting photos. In this article the design team will show you some great ideas of getting more out of your cardstock by using it as embellishments etc...

In Lacintha's layout you can see that she used cardstock and an embossing machine (Cuttlebug) to make a fabulous embellishment. She ran the butterfly through the Cuttlebug and then sanded the embossed areas and added Stickles for even more dimension. Lacintha was able to really use her cardstock to the fullest creating an entire layout using only cardstock by sanding, inking, and tearing it!

I love how Summer made the most of ONE 12x12 sheet of black cardstock for her layout! She trimmed a large square from the back of her layout (see close up) and then used that square to mount her photo. If you are short on cardstock or just have one sheet of a certain color this is a great way to get the most of it!

In Shawna's layout she used a punch to make the most of her cardstock. I really like how she used diffferent tones of the Core'dinations textured cardstock for her tree. By using a wavy trimmer Shawna created an "out of the box" type layout with the waves for the edges.

By using a patterned paper as a large piece of her background Amanda thought it might be a bit busy, to help tone it down she used solid colored cardstock for her accent pieces. I love the embossing on the butterfly and the eyelets she added for more dimension.

For my layout I chose the new Core'dinatons cardstock. I tore the edges of each of the strips. This awesome cardstock has a lighter tone underneath when you tear it. You can achieve the same look also tearing regular cardstock and adding ink to the edges. I used the Black Magic as the base of my layout, I then tore a large circle at the top of the layout exposing the green core. I punched several circles from different sheets of cardstock. I chose a bright, colorful chipboard title to pull all of the colors of the cardstock together. I used only cardstock on this layout, no patterned paper!
