January 2008 Ad Challenge

Struggling for scrapbooking inspiration and stuck in a rut try reaching for a magazine and looking for some advertisements for inspiration. This month I challenged 3 Busy Bee Designers to take my ad challenge. Remember there is so much that can be taken from an ad – you can be inspired by color, by text, and by design. Ads can inspire layouts, tags, cards and even altered art just let your creativity take over and carry you away. What inspires you? Take the Busy Bee Ad Challenge today!

The Ad for the January 2008 Ad Challenge.
Kimber took a literal interpretation of this ad using the curve to divide her photos. The curve is the perfect design element it adds just the right amount of movement to her layout. Also note her title and journaling follows the ad as well.
Using the curve as inspiration Kimber created this darling card. The curve adds a soft edge between the cardstock and the patterned paper.
Kim’s layout takes it’s inspiration from the ads use of a large photo and the curved edge. Notice she is the only designer to use one large photo much like the ad. Her curved element is very much inspired by the ad but not a direct copy. She also stamped a image in the upper right corner of her layout that mimics the feel of the logo from the ad.
At first glance this card looks nothing like the ad but look closely I was inspired by the small logo and text placement in the upper right corner. Notice the color similarities between the logo and my card. When I originally pulled this ad for the challenge I was totally inspired by the curve taking a second look I noticed the logo and this card was then created.
This card is more directly inspired from the ad – much like Kimber’s card the base is divided by a curve that mixes patterned paper and cardstock
I too took inspiration from the curve between the photos of the ad. I printed 2 photos and placed them side by side – this gives them the illusion of being one large photo. I placed my title above the photo and journaling below in a similar format as the ad.
Take your inspiration to a new size. Don’t let the size of your inspiration trap you. The ad size is approximately 8.5x11 Shawna took her inspiration to a 6 x 12 canvas.
